Tarangire National Park is a landscape of ancient baobabs, golden grasslands and seasonal rivers, best known for its remarkable elephant herds and rich concentration of wildlife. Tarangire is best experienced with the seasons in mind, as wildlife movements change dramatically with the availability of water. The dry season generally offers the most concentrated game viewing, particularly around the Tarangire River, while the greener months bring fresh landscapes, migratory wildlife and excellent birdwatching. Early morning and late afternoon are ideal for game drives, with cooler temperatures and active wildlife. Bring light clothing, sun protection, binoculars and a warm layer for early starts, and consider spending at least a full day in the park to appreciate its landscapes beyond the main river areas.
